The Frequency Code is used to identify when deductions are to be taken from an employee's pay. This is accomplished by including the required frequency code in the Payroll Calendar periods. When running a period, a match is then required between the frequencies on the calendar and the frequency contained in an employee's master deduction record.
The Frequency Code has two internally reserved values. The first is a *, which may be used to 'suspend' a deduction. If this code value is used, no calculations will be performed for the deduction in question, except for arrears collection. This applies to the frequency field in a deduction master record and/or an employee's master record. The second is a # which is used in conjunction with pension deduction Group 1 Type 9. This is used to identity a temporary employee who must qualify for the deduction. See Deduction Code Group 1 Type 9 for further information.
