System Maintenance - Print Device Profile

The Print Device Profile allows you to describe the standard print devices that are available on your computer system. You may specify up to 12 queues in addition to the default 00 which is your current terminal. When you specify the defaults, these defaults will be used and presented to each operator whenever they attempt to run a program which will produce printed output and allows them the choice of selection of the various output options.

Device Name

Devices 00 and 01 will always default to TT:. Device 00 is the default for your terminal and can be used for output to the terminal that you are logged into. Device 01 is the default for a slave printer attached to your terminal, if applicable.

If you want to store your output on a disk device, you must enter the four-character device name or a disk-logical name followed by a colon ( : ). The options FRM, HLD, DEL, LOCK are not to be used for output to the disk or screen. All other entries under the device name area should be the logical names of the print queues set up and known to the system. Your system manager knows these names and can provide them or set up your profile for you.

Description

Enter the description which best describes in user's terms the name of the output print device.

FRM

FRM is used to indicate whether the print queue has forms control applied to it or not. '0' means that there is no forms control and this is the default entry if you enter return. A number/letter from 1 - U specifies the default form to be used and corresponds to the entries 1 - U in the forms parameter profile. (0=DEFAULT) See Forms Setup Profile for explanation of forms usage.)

HLD

This parameter causes the print output to be held until operator intervention releases it to the print queue. The default is 'N', meaning the item will not be held. Enter 'Y' if you want your output to this queue held.

Del

This parameter controls whether or not the output is to be deleted after printing. The default is to 'N', don't delete after printing. If you want the output deleted after printing, enter 'Y'.

NB:  If you do not specify delete after print in this parameter, then you are responsible to clean up the list files from your directory on a periodic basis. The advantage of this option, of course, is that if the print fails during the printout, the job does not have to be re-run to reprint and obtain the completed output.

Lock

The default is 'N', meaning the queue options are not locked and can be changed by the terminal operator during printer output selection.
If you enter 'Y', then the options on this queue are locked and may not be changed during output device selection.
