You can choose to configure email notifications that will be sent out to users with specific role-based security permissions. For example, you could add users with the 'Approve Journal Entry' and the 'Post Journal Entry' permissions and this means that once a transition succeeds, they would be notified.
You can also select to have an email notification sent back to the originator to let them know that some action has been completed.
