Hyperspace
The Hyperspace Menu gives you access to the modules that maintain and manage the hyperspace system. The four maintenance modules will likely not get much use as the hyperspace is set up for you when you receive the HR system software. The Hyperspace Changes module only needs to be used if you want to change the code words that are used to access different screens within HR. The Additions and Deletions modules should not be used.
One of the most frequent complaints voiced while interviewing users of other software packages was that they found it very annoying and time consuming to move from one employee-based screen in the system to another one. Typically, the only way of doing this is to exit the screen you are currently in, navigate through myriads of menus to get to the screen you want to go to, and re-key in the employee name or number. We have developed a system that lets you jump from one employee-based screen to any other in the system without having to exit the screen you are currently in, wade through the menu system or re-key the employee name or number. We call this system the 'Hyperspace' system.
The name 'Hyperspace' comes from one of the first video games ever created. The game was called Asteroids. In the game you had control of a tiny spaceship stuck in an asteroid belt. The object was to maneuver the ship and shoot the asteroids before they collided with your space craft. As the game goes on the asteroids become more and more numerous until there is only one way to escape - the hyperspace button. Pressing the hyperspace button would instantaneously remove you from your present position in space and jump you light years away to another place. Similarly, the hyperspace system in HR gives you the ability of jumping from any employee based screen to any other one in the fraction of the time, and with a fraction of the effort it would normally take you to move from one screen to another.
The system has a hyperspace file which contains a list of all the employee-based screens that the hyperspace system will recognize. This file need not be changed by you unless you wish to change the screen key word used to activate each screen.
Hyperspace can be activated in two ways. The first is from the Field to Change prompt on each screen, the other is to use the Hyperspace Control Centre option on the hyperspace menu.
Each employee-based screen has a Field to Change prompt at the bottom of screen. Leaving this field blank and pressing enter will save any changes you may have made and exit you from the current screen to the menu system.
If you search at the Field to Change prompt, a window opens displaying all the screens that you can hyperspace to. By moving the cursor to the option, you want to 'hyperspace' to and pressing enter, you will activate the hyperspace system. Hyperspacing from a screen in this manner will update any changes you made in the same manner as had you simply pressed enter. You will then be taken to the screen that you specified. The number of the employee you were just working with will be automatically entered in the new screen for you.
The hyperspace control centre is simply a screen that lets you specify an employee number and the screen you wish to hyperspace to. By placing this menu option on the adhoc menu, you can hyperspace to any other screen from anywhere within HR regardless of what prompt you are at. You will also be returned to the exact place you left when you activated the adhoc menu. By using the hyperspace system in this manner, you can be part way through entering data on one screen, hyperspace to another, return and continue right where you left off.
Hyperspace Code Additions
The Hyperspace Code Maintenance modules let you add, change, delete, and view hyperspace records.
Unique ID
Enter the unique ID of the screen you want direct access to. Search to view codes. Use the descriptions to guide you to the one you wish to access. Leave this field blank and enter to exit.
Code
Enter the 10-character code to use to access the selected screen. This code must be unique as duplicate codes will be disallowed.
DESCRIPTION
Enter a 30-character description of the code you are working with.
Hyperspace Report
The Hyperspace Report provides a listing of all modules that can currently be accessed through hyperspace. This report displays the module name and the code used by hyperspace to access the module.
Hyperspace Code Range/Selection
Enter the starting and ending hyperspace code to report on. Enter through to report on all the defined hyperspace codes.
Hyperspace Control Centre
The Hyperspace Control module lets you enter any employee number you want and jump directly to any screen you like bypassing the menu system. This module is ideal to put on your adhoc menu so that it could be accessed at any time.
Employee
Enter the number of the employee you wish to access. Search to display a list of employees sorted by name and SIN number respectively.
Leave this field blank and press enter to exit. Once you have entered a valid number, a window displaying all screens you can jump to will open. Use your arrow keys to move to the screen you want.
