What is SIP for ADS?
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for ADS is a software-based solution of managing incoming and outgoing phone calls from your ADS server using Internet connectivity instead of traditional phone lines. Both analog and digital calls are supported.
SIP is the core protocol in Voice Over IP (VOIP) technology for initiating, managing, and terminating phone calls over the Internet.
Components
Benefits
This shift from a hardware-based ADS environment to a software-based ADS environment provides many benefits, including:
1) Lower Phone Costs
Districts choosing to migrate to SIP for ADS can reduce their annual phone costs greatly.
2) No Physical Hardware, Phone Lines, or Phone Cables Required
SIP accepts incoming calls and performs outbound calls using Internet connectivity. This allows the district to drastically reduce phone usage costs related to physical lines
3) All Existing ADS Call Functionality is available
All incoming and outgoing call functionality currently available to districts using a traditional ADS environment is also available. The phone menu trees used for processing incoming and outgoing calls are identical.
4) Better Incoming Call Management when ‘all lines are Busy’
SIP for ADS has a feature for better handling when all incoming phone lines are busy.
When an ADS user places a call at a time in which all incoming lines are currently busy, SIP for ADS will playback a recorded message ‘All lines are busy – please try again later.
5) Maintaining ADS Phone Number Profile is no longer required
SIP for ADS no longer requires the creation or maintenance of local and long-distance area codes and prefixes in the ADS Phone Number Profile (11,2,4,4) in atrieveERP.
During the dispatch callout, SIP for ADS will successfully call any 10-digit employee phone number it is provided, regardless of whether or not it is in the local calling area of the school district. This allows the dispatchers and HR staff to quickly enter new replacement employees without having to confirm if the replacement employee phone number(s) already exist in the ADS Phone Number Profile. Records defined in the ADS Phone Number Profile will be ignored when dispatch calls are performed by the SIP for the ADS system.
6) Works with your existing ADS Monitoring Service
If a district migrating to SIP for ADS has purchased the ADS Monitoring Service, this service will still function once the district has migrated to SIP for ADS.
7) Improved Voice Clarity
Clarity of playback of pre-recorded audio messages is better than traditional ADS systems utilizing analog technology. Also, the recording of employee names during the ADS registration process will provide a higher level of clarity.
8) Quicker Line Release
Incoming and outgoing phone lines are released in a timelier manner when the ADS user hangs up or is disconnected, allowing the SIP for the ADS system to process more calls in a shorter timeframe. As a result, outbound dispatch calls may complete faster, requiring less manual intervention processing during the morning callout.
