Authority Level Database Maintenance

Authority Levels are used to define different levels of authority to be attached to various sub-systems within HR. These levels will give access to specific people or groups of people to perform certain functions like approving leave applications. Authority levels comprise of three digits starting at 000 through 999. The higher the number, the more authority the level has. For example, level 000 could be a data entry clerk while 999 the superintendent. While it is possible to create up to 1000 different authority levels, between five to ten would be more realistic. It is not necessary for you to use contiguous numbers and would likely be wise to leave several numbers unused between levels to give yourself room to insert new levels as required.

e.g.                   1 DATA ENTRY CLERK

                         2 DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR

                         3 DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR

                         4 SUPERINTENDENT

By leaving unused levels between each, new authority levels can be inserted between any level if it becomes necessary.

Authority Levels are not used in the current version of HR.

Authority Level

Enter a 3-digit numeric authority level code. The system assumes that higher the level number, the more authority the level has. The system will automatically format the number with leading zeros where necessary. If you enter 10, the system will translate and store the number as 010.

Description

Enter up to 30 alphanumeric character description for the authority level. Make the description detailed enough to differentiate it from the other authority levels in the system.
