Add or Remove Inherited Roles
In addition to adding Permissions directly to a Role, efficiencies can be gained by inheriting Permissions defined for other roles.
- For example, an HR Clerk Role has 3 permissions: 1, 2, and 3. An HR Manager should have the same Permissions 1, 2, and 3 as well as Permissions 4 and 5. When the HR Manager Role is created, add Permissions 4 and 5 and inherit the HR Clerk Role.
- If changes are required to the inherited Role in the future, all Roles that have inherited that Role would be updated automatically. In the example above, changes to the Role HR Clerk would automatically update the Role HR Manager.
To add or remove inherited Roles, select the Inherit Role button. The Inherit Role window will display.
- Single select or multi-select Roles to inherit in the Available Roles list box and then click the right arrow button.
- Single select or multi-select Roles to remove inherited Roles from the Inherited Roles list box and then click the left arrow button.
- Note that highlighting a role in either the Available Roles or the Inherited Roles list will display the permissions associated to that Role in the 'Permissions for the selected Role' list box below.
- Click Save to save the changes and Close to close the window. The Roles Permission grid will be populated with the changes.
Note that Permissions added through the process of inheriting a Role will display with an indicator in the grid to visually distinguish the Permissions added directly from those added through inheritance. Hovering over the icon in the grid will display the name of the Role that was inherited.
